Now that you have taken part in Genius Hour for a marking period, how can you relate to the article? Do you agree/disagree with the info in the article? Do you have anything new to add to the discussion?
I can relate to the reactions of the parents and students in the article. I think this is because the idea of Genius Hour is so foreign in a school setting where everything you do is done by clear instructions and should fit a specific criteria. The idea of Genius Hour was alien to me because school is not a place for this type of learning. I also relate to the students' reception of the idea once they started with their projects.
I do agree with the information in the article, except I think my peers received the project a little differently than the kids in the article. This is probably because we have had longer to get accustomed to the way of things and the difference in learning method was not welcomed here as much as the kids in the article.
I would like to add that I feel schools should start Genius Hour at an early age to teach kids that learning is more than the regurgitating of answers that classes are often reduced to. This is a good tool to help kids know the importance of learning rather than being taught you have to learn because you have to pass the class.
